House Tutzing
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Bavarian countryside, this project began life as a modest refugee shelter — a place of transition and impermanence. Through a sensitive, imaginative transformation, it has been reimagined as a vibrant, deeply personal home that balances history, hospitality, and expressive design.
The architectural approach focused on honoring the original structure’s simplicity while softening its institutional past. Carefully retained elements were paired with bold new interventions: rooms were restructured to invite light and flow, and the material palette was expanded to include natural finishes and vivid tones, drawing subtle inspiration from English country house design.
Colour plays a central role in the project’s identity — from sun-washed yellows to deep blues and botanical greens — creating a space that feels both grounded and joyful. Much of the furniture was custom-designed for the home, including sculptural beds, a large communal table, and an inviting sofa. These pieces help anchor the interiors, combining comfort with a touch of eccentricity.
